I'm a huge fan of Ted Talks. I listen to a few throughout the day while I'm working on projects or on my way home. Today I listened to Mel Robins from TedxSF talk about how we end up screwing ourselves over. I liked the talk, although in the beginning it felt like I was watching an infomercial for Mel and the ways to become more like her. She's not a poor example to emulate, so that's not what I'm saying.. Anyway, I won't go down that tangent–it's beside my thought. What struck me was in the final minute of her talk. She proposes that if we don't act within a 5 second time period after an impulsive idea, the chances we will actually follow through with the idea are pretty much extinguished. This made me think of the Impulsive Buyer ... and then it made me think of the Impulsive Creative.. and now I am asking myself, "Should I be more impulsive and create more ads with out giving my thought too much critique?" I think I'll follow the rule for a day or so and see if my ideas are actually effective or if they were just impulsive.
